Fun in the OR

Got to scrub in today for three neck surgeries and one ortho repair of a fractured ankle.

The Albinoblackbear tastes surgery and LIKES it!!

Oh dear.

More on that later. Right now I am heading back (after a quick meal and 20min nap) to work a 12h night shift. Gonna be a long long night.

And... *drum roll please*

I PASSED FIRST YEAR! Woooohhoooooo!

(It is pass/fail so I am assuming "P" is for "passed").

oh geeze...remind me to have a talk with you about surgery. Enjoy working and congrats on your P (unless the Irish spell it Phail)

Congrats! But there wasn't a doubt! :)

Surgery sounds incredibly cool! Sadly I can never be an OR nurse because I'd be fired immediately for being so fidgety.

Grump--Yes indeedly. Cheers!

I made it through the night (thanks to a co-worker that let me take one nice nap in an empty ICU bed after I started speaking in tongues).

BINY--Heh, yeah that would suck, Medicine Phail.

Maha--Thanks--and yes oh believe me there *was* a doubt after that anatomy spotter of doom. =)

Nurse J--Cheers!

OMDG--Hahah, I was actually chuckling to myself as I was getting changed out of the scrubs, thinking "damn that OMDG! Maybe she was right!!"

I don't think I am cutthroat/smart enough for surg anyway but...suppose that we shall see.

OMDG--Also, interestingly enough I did one of those long personality test for medical specialties...and the top two that came up were emergency medicine and thorasic surgery! I thought, "weird, that totally came from left field!"

Maybe not so much?!

ABB -- Interesting. Mine always come up with Neurology or Psychiatry. Perhaps we should listen?

And PS -- You don't have to be cut throat or even that smart to do surgery. Most of the people who went into surgery from my class weren't AOA or anything. And trauma surgery is just a specialty off of general surgery. It's not one of those crazy competitive fields like Derm. I guess it could be if you did ortho, neurosurg, ophtho, urology, or ENT. But seriously, gen surg is just run of the mill competitive like internal med is.

Not that it matters, since we all know you're brilliant, though.

Congrats for passing first year! Hope you are having fun back at work, even if it is 12 hour night shifts!

I am a little late...but congratulations! I will keep my fingers crossed for a place in B.C. ....ortho might be a good choice since there is the longest waiting list for hips....and our population is getting older....AND it is a bit like carpentry which is always interesting too..... ;)
