Suddenly I feel Old

Why is the question, "how many years of school do you have to go back for?" always followed by "and how old are you?"

Irritating.

Irrelevant.

Because these are the same people who will generously offer advice to you about anything. No matter how little they know about it.

Your mistake would be in listening to them. There are plenty of people much older than you, who have returned to school and felt it was the right thing to do.

While I am much older than you, that is not where my life is headed. Should I discourage you for having different goals?

These people. Could you picture any of them caring for a patient without a very controlled environment to work in? Could you picture them taking care of patients? You consult them for their expertise in . . . ?

To quote the title of a great book, What Do You Care What Other People Think?
by Richard P. Feynman.

Up to a certain age it makes no difference but I think theres a cut off . At least for public schools in America, training MDs is quite expensive so you want students who have a reasonable career ahead of them. Students that are over 40 wouldn't be able to practice as long as someone in their 20s or 30s.

Uhm, HELLO! WE're ALMOST THIRTY.
LOL
(some of us sooner than others, I might add - AHEM*)
I say to hell with them. I have this hilarious skit of you and 'them' running through my mind. Where you respond in a really punk rock voice, "oh yeah, well at least I'm not a PUSS-EH!" in your best sarah silverman impression. HAHAHA... Ahhh i think i need more sleep.

Keet-I know, I know. Thank you for your invite to your party in LONDON. Yeah, no problem...lets see here...oh YES! I have tons of extra cash I was staring at earlier, wondering what I should do with it. And voila! A weekend trip to England! :)

Brat.

Don't you remember me kicking your ass in front of your father on your (19th? or was it 17th?) birthday??

Hahahhahaha. Oh the humiliation.

Exactly, I am not a PUSS-EH! :) How eloquent.

P.S I am working a day shift in BFNBC on my 30th. Awesome.

RM--True. I just roll my eyes because it is not like I am sitting there gumming my pureed roast beef in the Old Folks Home. I am 29, which still leaves me with plenty of working years left.

I think they just use that comment as the stepping stone to the next question is, "so when are you going to have kids?"

AGHGHGHGHGHG!!!!!

K-Indeed. Some schools in Canada have a cut-off (I believe it is 36 for entry). Though I know UBC doesn't as they had a 50-something grad 2 years ago, and there is a dood in his 40's in the current program.

We'll have a re-do dirty thirty party in Limerick. or somewhere warmer, like Valencia or Cinque Terres when you are here. And yes i remember you kicking my ass at my own birthday party, in front of my dad, thanks. Those kinds of scars don't really fade. Nope, they just bleed tears now and again.

HAHAHAHA! Miss you. Come save me from primary care hell!
