Comments of the Week

Well...another 2 rejections came my way this week. The last one came Friday afternoon as I was sleeping off my night shift. I saw the blinking LED on my phone and took a quick glance at the email. Yep. Another resounding "you did not qualify for an interview".

I muttered an expletive, rolled over and went back to sleep. Starting to get numb I think.

It's been a rough week for many reasons. I have to say the things that have been keeping me smiling are the calls, emails, and comments of support....much appreciated.

Two particular comments have given me plenty of mileage already and make me laugh whenever I think of them--so Nature Nerd and Keith you two are tied for the number one comment of the week:

"I think you should send them some feedback, starting with unfortunately, i can't accept your rejection letter, as I am the best candidate to take a seat in your stupid ass school."

and

"Pooooop to U of C. Poop. They have no idea what they just passed up. No. Idea.
"

Ahh well. Life goes on. I can't really moan about having to spend the next couple of years in the Caribbean, but I can moan about having to be so far away from such amazing friends and family.

*Hugs*. The med school application process can be so hard, unless you happen to fall into it from high school (in a country where undergraduate programs exist). I do sympathise. I sometimes secretly do want to be in the Caribbean myself, island life is a nice way to be. Good luck and hang in there.

90% of all medical students and doctors get/got rejected by many schools.

99% of the rest are damned liars.

You will get a quality medical education and solid clinical rotations at that Caribbean school. I've worked with many students and residents from there, and they're pretty much indistinguishable from even the 'big name' North American schools - except they work HARDER.

NN-- :) But of course!

DF-- Thanks DF! I decided that for some reason I am not meant to stay in Canada. I will now put my game face on and go there, with the intention of making the best of my education. Everything is unfolding as it should be. Right? :)

FD--That is always good to hear. It is not the first time that someone has told me that about the quality of the Carib students. Though I have heard that some of the Carib students seem to miss out on the structure and guidance that other students have during their clerkships.

I am hoping that my gunner-adult-learner self has enough direction to get me through with a quality experience. :)

Aha!

Quit planning on being a gunner.

Be a SNIPER!

Focus on the important thing! Becoming a physician!

FD--hahah--yes of course the military allusion wasn't lost on you!

Fret not...my sights are set on the right thing...

Please don't be a gunner...no one likes a gunner.

Gunners are assholes that back-stab and kiss ass and use generally shitty methods to make themselves look good while making others look bad.

You can do well with out being one of them...;)

BINY--I do solemnly swear, here on my shiny new path text--that I will not become a gunner. ;)

But there is nothing I can do about the adult learner part!

Plenty of schools in the states. Just need to move down for a couple of years and establish residency in a state. Best of luck

DF--I am leaving on a jet plane on May 2nd! Yikes!

K--thanks K. Keep up the pure comedy on ID.
