March is Tough

This March marks is the 1st anniversary of Jody's death, and the 8th anniversary of my Dad's death.

I find that, for the most part, grief over these events does not fall on predicted days or during likely hours. It sneaks up on me and catches me when I least expect it. Finding a photograph or remembering a moment that flashes in front of my eyes, triggered by a seemingly unrelated event.

It's easy to get buried in all of the urgent unimportant things in life and forget to notice the non-urgent important things.

Here's to taking a moment to pause and be grateful for being alive.

Hey AMG! Remember that trip?!? :)

That is a BEAUTIFUL picture. Where is it?

Yes, it is indeed good to be alive!

Thanks! I love it too.

It is taken from the top of Mt. Herrodier near Pond Inlet which is on the northern tip of Baffin Island in the Canadian Arctic.

Truly a magical place.

I'd almost like to pack up and carry out a portion of my life up there. Wow.

So sorry to hear about what March brings to you. I wish there were words to change the circumstances.

JOM--The North has a reputation for being dark and cold all the time.

Yes it is those things, but it is also a stunning place with totally unique wildlife (Narwhals, polar bears, walrus, caribou, etc.) and spectacular landscape (icebergs, glaciers, mountains, rivers, wildflower covered tundra, etc.).

Thank you for your thoughts.

What I remember most about that trip was laughing so hard and so long that my stomach muscles hurt! Yes, that was very fun. The sharp contrast of the many challenges on call and sleepless nights compared with awesome arctic beauty and good friends = extreme giddiness.

AMG--I FORGOT about the non-stop giggles we had on that trip. :)

I just remembered you being worried about falling into the Arctic Ocean because thinning the ice with some...er...warm fluid! hahahah

That trip was epic. I have the pic of you making a bagel over an MSR stove right in front of me tacked on my wall.

Zab-Glad you enjoy the blog. Thanks.

BINY-Yup.
