All those fancy words....hopefully you still converse with us low-folks in little hick towns? Say, do you have that gelato recipe? Did you know I have a logger named Chad living in a trailer in the back yard? (really, no kidding.)
As you mentioned you have photographic proof of my humble beginnings...so I can never forget my roots. :)
Vanilla Milk Gelato: 2 cups milk 1 vanilla bean split and scraped 4 egg yolks 3/4 cup sugar 1 cup cream
Put the milk and vanilla over medium heat until almost boiling...in a seperate bowl beat together the egg yolks and sugar.
Take the milk off the heat, whisk in the egg mixture.
Return to heat, mix for 3-4 mins until it thickens slightly, remove from heat. Add the cream, allow to cool. Discard the bean.
Pour into metal bowl and stir at 1h intervals until it is scoopable. You can add a couple teaspoons of vanilla extract if you want a stronger vanilla flavour.
Voila!
That would be awesome if there was a logger named Chad living in your yard. Or if you had recently shot a raccoon from the porch.
P.S I like to use 2 vanilla pods. Makes more flecks. Yummmmm.

DF--I am continuously chastised for being a nerd...but really when you're in a pack of them it's a little of the pot calling the kettle black. :) Last night we were out at the pub celebrating 250 years of Guinness and for about 30 mins the conversation was around superconductors and computer processing speeds--it was ridiculous.
Not until a couple more pints had flowed did the conversation degenerate to one of the Irish lads trying to teach my buddy how to say "Thin Lizzy" with an Irish accent. Much more appropriate for the event I'd say.
Simmers--I would go to great lengths to support a man seeking out how to make gelato from scratch!
Ry--Wow. Can you post some pics on your blog?? I actually want to see what The Chad looks like when someone wakes him up...though I suppose he's one of those dudes that drinks beer til three and gets up at 4 to go to work...
