Just When I Thought I HAD Seen It All...turns out I hadn't...

Yes indeed dear blog readers.

Blister guy came BACK to the ED today.

His chief complaint: "infected blister?"

I call him to triage.

"So...what brings you in today?? Since we saw you here yesterday for your blisters..."

"I wanted to come in 'cuz my blister popped, thought I should get it looked at."

*She walks into med room and hits head as hard as possible against narc cupboard in an effort to wake herself up from the reoccurring nightmare of 'worst abuses of emergency departments which I pay for with my hard earned tax dollars'. Yet she doesn't wake up. And then she hears screaming and soon realises the screaming is coming from her own mouth.*

I wish I was making this up. :)

YES~DF, you nailed it on the head. I never know who is up on failblog so I don't reference it very often. But, yeah. Perfect example.

I am going to throw out that there may be some underlying dependent personality disorder at work in this failed example of critical thinking. Maybe you can get him into a publicly funded CBT support group where he can learn some life skills? I bet it would save the system a fortune in the long run... The hard part would convincing him that this was an actual treatment, and you didn't just think he was a knucklehead who doesn't know how to use a band-aid. Or maybe my bleeding heart mental health nurse is just being too darn nice.

Nursing Fail.

You are supposed to bash this patient's head against the cabinet, not your head. And, as opposed to the way you did it, not until he starts screaming, but up until he is no longer capable of screaming. And after that little day dream, you walk out to where the over-treated patient is sitting and ask if there is anything you can do to make his trip to the emergency department a perfect 10 experience. :-(

Somehow the the word verification anticipated my comment.

I suppose Steppenwolf would have been a bit too obvious?

Yeah, I actually haven't looked on that site particularly often, but love the phrase :)

KK-Does CBT give common sense life skills? I can't remember, it's been so long since all of my patients were in it!

Ahh, the good old days. When the clopixol flowed like water...

Rogue--Next time maybe I should read him some Hesse and see what he thinks about it.
