Once in a while, it strikes me that a lifetime in medicine is a completely crazy idea.

I try to remind myself that I intend to strive for a balanced life once I'm more settled in my career. I'd say I'm doing that now, but it's tough as a resident. If I find myself saying the same thing as an attending -- and I think there's a strong possibility of this based on what I see from my attendings -- then I'll have to reassess and make drastic changes if needed.

From where I stand now, it seems that the easiest way to have balance as a doctor is to work part-time, but the feasibility of this seems to vary by field & malpractice insurance rates.PGYxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04326999545370162455noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3138625163039637769.post-78637051110239931842011-02-15T14:05:04.314-06:002011-02-15T14:05:04.314-06:00Aww, ABB, I know how that feels :(

Everyone feels like crap by the end of second year. You are not alone. And having to cram one more 'useless' factoid into your already fevered brain seems to be a perfect demonstration of the law of diminishing returns.

But all you have to do is put one foot ahead of the other, and get the job done.

Could your restlessness be a result of your new-found freedom? Surely PBL can't be as interesting as a road trip to Bushmills?

Live vicariously. At the end of my second year, I designed subdivisions. And in my third, I started reading gardening and beekeeping blogs. And in my fourth year, I started reading winemaking and cooking blogs.

Courage! It'll be over sooner than you think.Beach Bumhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02321849281292778811noreply@blogger.com
